Marriage & Family Conference Strengthens Homes

Rev. Isaac and Rev. Mrs. Edith shared decades of wisdom with couples and families.

Every generation needs to learn what the last generation learned the hard way. That conviction is behind every marriage and family conference Rev. Isaac and Rev. Mrs. Edith Mpamaugo have convened over the years. This summer's gathering brought together couples — some newly married, some with decades behind them — for two days of teaching, honest conversation, and prayer in an atmosphere of warmth and unhurried trust.

Rev. Isaac opened the first session with what he called "the foundation question": not "are you in love?" but "what are you building on?" He walked the gathering through the parable of the two builders and drew out its implications for the day-to-day choices that determine the climate of a home. Rev. Mrs. Edith led the afternoon session with her characteristic warmth and directness, addressing the wives on the subject of honoring one's husband in the ordinary traffic of a busy household. "Honor is not only for Sundays," she said. "It lives in the tone you choose when you are tired, and in the words you speak about him when he is not in the room." Several couples said later that those words had shifted something in their home the very next morning.

The closing session was given over to prayer, with couples praying together in a way that many said they had not done in years — or ever. A number of attendees have since written to say the conference marked a turning point in their marriage. Rev. Isaac and Rev. Mrs. Edith remain available to speak at marriage and family gatherings. Those who would like to invite them are encouraged to reach out through the Contact page.
